An international investment firm with interests in the energy and energy transition markets needed a study to better understand the heavy load carriers (HLC) sector.
Project Context
Within the HLC fleet, a specific vessel category is composed of large heavy semisubmersible ships that allow load to be floated over the deck and project cargo ships with at least one heavy crane to handle heavy cargo. The client required a complete study that would help them determine a semisubmersible HLC valuation, including market sizing, supply and demand and a vessel valuation analysis with estimated dayrates.
Scope of Work
We provided a comprehensive study including:
- Current Market Trends providing a clear picture of the target market with analysis of its development over a 10-year period. This also included demand in vessel days per year and fleet utilization evolution over the time period.
- Market Supply analysis for each vessel segment including current and future players with details of their market share and positioning. This section also included current and future supply characteristics to help the investor understand market placing.
- Global Forecast Demand using Spinergie’s long-range forecasting capabilities up to 2040. The forecast was customized to cover the client’s target markets and took into account fleet aging to determine potential supply gaps and periods of over-supply.
- Demand was split into different sectors (O&G, offshore wind…) to better address future market dynamics.
- Vessel Valuation for each vessel segment with a near-term estimated dayrate forecast and projections of estimated revenue.
Spinergie’s Approach
The goal for this study was to equip the client with the strategic insight needed to evaluate HLC assets from a market positioning and valuation perspective. Our team of experienced analysts brought their technical and commercial expertise while drawing from our proprietary modeling framework and comprehensive Market Intelligence database. Our long-term forecast (out to 2040) was tailored to the client’s specific areas of interest identifying any fleet gaps, market imbalances or opportunities.
Throughout the process, we remained fully transparent with our methodology, assumptions and data sources. With a fast turnaround and highly collaborative approach, we ensured the final deliverable aligned precisely with the client’s needs.
Project Result
After providing the documentation, Spinergie’s team were available for ongoing follow-on support including a scheduled Q&A session with all parties. The client used Spinergie’s expertise to inform their vessel investment strategy for the HLC market.
