We worked with a national Transmission System Operator to provide comprehensive mapping of HVAC/HVDC offshore substation (OSS) manufacturing yards and their structures and foundations.
Project Context
The OSS market is facing increased demand—Spinergie estimates that by 2035, over 260 offshore substations (AC and DC) will be in operation. The building of OSS is characterized by long-lead times which complicates supply chain navigation of this key component.
The client sought Spinergie’s consulting services for a market study on the manufacturing of HVAC/HVDC OSS, as well as their structures and foundations, in order to identify future supply chain constraints and tensions.
Scope of Work
We agreed to provide two distinct, comprehensive databases for the client: yards capable of manufacturing marine OSS and/or their foundations and a database of existing and future OSS projects.
The list of yards included those which have already manufactured marine OSS as well as the main manufacturing yards in the marine sector which, based on their specifications, are susceptible to manufacture OSS (primary structures and/or outfitting). The list of OSS included associated installation data.
The client was then presented with further analysis to help them better understand the OSS market segment. The presentation included analysis of the key stakeholders identified for developing OSS components reinforced with:
- An overview of the company’s positioning in the corporate market.
- An overview of the various manufacturing sites.
- Analysis of the main past and future OSS contracts.
